01 — ScopeWhat we do

Painting & decorating: Interior and exterior. Walls, ceilings, woodwork, doors and trim in emulsion, eggshell and gloss. Filling, sanding and caulking happen before anything gets a topcoat — most of the work in a good finish is done before the first tin is opened.
Wallpaper & wallcoverings: Feature walls, full rooms, murals and heavy contract vinyls. Pattern matched, seams rolled, and walls lined first where the surface needs it. Papering is where a wall stops being a surface and starts being the room.
Commercial fit-out finishing: Whole floorplates alongside other trades. Plasterboard taped, jointed and primed, partitions and suspended ceilings finished, and the work sequenced around a live programme so the next trade is never waiting. Contract work is not tied to the domestic radius — recent jobs have run from central London to Salisbury.

03 — MethodBefore we open a tin

Anyone can photograph a finished room. What decides whether a finish lasts — and whether you can live in the house while it happens — is what goes on before the first coat and after the last one.

Everything sheeted: Floors, furniture and fittings covered before a lid comes off. Cotton dust sheets down, polythene over whatever cannot be moved out.
Cut in by hand: Edges, cornices and glazing beads cut in with a brush rather than masked and hoped for. Lines that hold up when you stand close to them.
Cleared up daily: Tools away, sheets folded, floors swept at the end of each day. You get the room back every evening, not at the end of the job.

04 — PracticeWho we are

CJB Decorators is a painting and decorating firm based in Dorking, Surrey. Domestic work runs within about ten miles of the town.
